![]() The 102 mm refractor provides enough light-gathering ability to view all the best celestial objects in the solar system and beyond. This proprietary technology-found on our observatory-grade telescopes-ensures maximum light transmission and Omni’s signature crisp views. All optical surfaces on the Omni XLT AZ 102 are fully coated with XLT optical coatings. You’ll find the same high quality optical components in our new AZ telescopes. Plus, its beautiful design makes it a showpiece in any room.Ĭelestron’s Omni family has always been synonymous with bright, clear views. Perfect for balconies, high windows, and observation decks, Omni provides stunning views of wildlife, landscapes, and more. A dual-position arm can be raked back for pointing higher in the sky, or adjusted to point downward for viewing objects at or below the horizon. Omni AZ is the ideal telescope for day-to-night observations. Your Omni AZ comes together in just minutes with a simple, no-tool setup. A sturdy aluminum tripod anchors Omni AZ and stabilizes your images. Plus, you’ll find slip clutches in both axes for quick and easy pointing. Worm gears on both axes provide smooth, easy motion when tracking targets. Designed from the ground up, it’s our best manual AZ mount ever. With this new addition to the lineup, our engineers have brought that same level of sophistication to an altazimuth mount. $160 is not expensive for a telescope. For years, Celestron’s Omni equatorial mount has set the industry standard for elegant design. But any scope, with low mag on the planets, won't look much more than an orb.Īnd no clue what you mean in regard to overpriced. unless I use very low magnification that is. I've seen Saturn with it, and it's certainly much more than just a white orb with a hint of a ring. I can point to youtube reviews that are positive as well.Īs for Saturn, it'll depend on your sky and if you are using a high enough magnification. Reviews are actually quite favorable, and folks over at Cloudy Nights also like it. I think it's just overpriced to give the illusion of something better. Perhaps mine was a dud, but seems unlikely. Bluetooth remote for taking a picture is a cheap Five and Below type remote, certainly nothing to be impressed by. Even online reviews were not favorable, though I figured I would give it a try. Moon was the only clearly visible object to see, but that was it. Saturn was a white orb with a hint of ring. Personally found it to be junky, especially at this price. I bought this 2 weeks ago in-store and returned it quickly before the holiday return line starts. Where this scope excels is for wide views, the Pleiades for instance look great in a scope like this. If new to this, the planets even with a bit of false color can still look quite nice. ![]() I also say the above with the knowledge that a larger dob will provide a much better view. Use a decent mag on the planets too, 25mm won't cut it. Jupiter may be a little problematic since it's so bright, but you can make out its bands. But for Saturn you can still get a pretty decent view, assuming the skies are cooperating. Again, it's due to chromatic aberration (false color). Is Saturn high in the sky, viewing good for the night, and so on?Īnd admittedly fast refractors like these aren't optimal for planets. Now the determining factor will be your skies. My standard is Saturn, can I see Saturn with this? My question with these telescope has always been what can I see with this. good for the winter, no cooling or wait times, no collimation, just pick up with one hand and I can view in minutes. If you (or your kids) don't like it, super easy to return. But it comes with the territory for achromatic refractors.Īnd best of all, it's Costco. Fast scopes like these will have chromatic aberration, which is sort of like a tinge of color where it shouldn't be. Major star clusters, Orion Nebula, Bands of Jupiter, Cassini Division w/ Saturn (on a good seeing night), and of course a very cratery moon. And includes slow motion controls (rare with cheaper scopes), 2 eyepieces (not the greatest, but okay to start with), and a phone adapter for those who want to take quick shots of the moon. So it's a YMMV sort of deal.īut its a 102mm fast refractor, F/6.5, includes a somewhat shaky, but still usable mount. and with Xmas coming up, they may sell out fast. Now not every Costco may have it, and I have seen it in-store only. ![]() Normally anything below $200 is junk, but this scope is an exception. And I've posted on a couple of those threads. It's the time of year where people tend to hunt down cheap telescopes.
